Speed Surveys

These can be undertaken by automatic traffic counter or manually by a hand held device. These are useful in determining whether there is a specific speeding problem or times when it gives cause for concern. This can also be used as a way of determining traffic calming needs and for targeting resources.

This can be done independantly or can be incorporated into a more in depth study of traffic flow and conditions. This type of survey is especially important to verify local public opinion and gives a basis for any remedial measures required. As speed is now a big problem in many areas this tool is more a necessity rather than a luxury and is usually the first survey to be undertaken when problems arise.
